This course explores the science of stress and trauma and its impact on children from infancy through adolescence, giving participants the tools to recognize trauma triggers and responses while understanding how different individuals or groups may perceive a traumatic event. Participants will learn concrete actions first responders can take to reduce trauma’s impact on children, examine institutional policies through a trauma-informed lens, and identify community resources that support children who have experienced trauma. The course also addresses practical strategies for reintegrating children into their school or daycare communities following a traumatic event, and closes with self-care techniques designed to strengthen participants’ own resilience.
